Empowering the women in our communities

Enhancing the livelihoods of women in the communities through entrepreneurship development initiatives

Case Study

Economic empowerment for women is essential for overall socio-economic development of local communities. Through its various skill and entrepreneurship development initiatives Sembcorp aims at empowering the rural women by enabling them to become self-sufficient and contribute to their family income. They include skill training in agriculture, tailoring, beautician, making of candles, incense sticks and basic level computer skills.

With an aim to empower the women and youth in the local communities, Sembcorp has established the Sembcorp Entrepreneurship Development Centre (SEDC) in Nellore. SEDC is providing vocational training to local women that will bring long term economic benefit. The centre is presently imparting training in tailoring, beautician and other entrepreneurship skills to aspiring women and helping them enhance their economic opportunities. Similarly in and around our renewable sites vocational trainings in tailoring, candle and incense sticks making are also being imparted to the women from these local communities.

Sembcorp’s Entrepreneurship development programmes are enhancing livelihoods and empowering the women in the local communities.
